Food is Medicine
At V-Giyan™ we believe food is medicine.
Our recipes stem from Ayurvedic origin, an ancient system of holistic medicine; and an integral part of most Indian cuisine.
We experience on a day-to-day basis that our food choices are responsible for our physical, emotional, and mental well-being; and that of our children and loved ones.
We are what we eat.
Ayurveda is based on the idea of maintaining balance among the body’s three doshas: Vata (air), Pitta (fire), and Kapha (water). The doshas represent different elements and qualities in the body and mind.
The use of specific herbs, spices, and cooking techniques in Indian cuisine is designed to either stimulate, soothe, or balance these energies.
At V-Giyan™ we encourage mindful preparation of our food to retain the maximum nutritional and healing benefits of our ingredients. We slow cook our meals, steam our vegetables and temper our spices to align with Ayurvedic principles that prioritise digestion and nourishment. Tempering spices in oil, for example, releases their medicinal properties and enhances their effectiveness of healing the body. We prepare every single dish based on these ancient techniques that have been passed down to us by our ancestors. Our food is supposed to boost our health!
You will see that our ingredient lists are clean and dominated by spices and herbs, rather than E-numbers, unhealthy additives and chemicals. Each of these have their own medicinal properties and therapeutic values.
Eating mindfully is making a conscious choice of what we put into our bodies – even better when the experience is enjoyable and delicious at the same time!
Over the next few months we will introduce one ingredient at a time so you know what you eat and how it benefits you and your family.
