Why we started vegan Indian food delivery in Oxford
V-Giyan was born out of a vision to deliver compassion and contentment through wholesome, healthy, hearty and authentic food with a focus on sustainability. As a vegan himself, our head chef and founder was constantly exploring Oxford and the rest of the shire looking for good grub. Although Oxford is blessed with great gastro pubs, restaurants and takeaways, he found very few that offer a purely plant-based offering. With a little thought, in depth research into the market and utilizing his culinary experience, he was able to set up V-GIYAN. The first question he needed to address was regarding viability of such an offering and the second question was what kind of food would be suitable. The only 100% plant based restaurant we could find on Happy Cow was Happy Friday which was quite centrally located and unfortunately since closed down. Their offering looked great but he wanted to find a way to showpiece Indian vegan food and create whole food focused produce which could appear to a wider health-conscious audience and provide it at their convenience. He started V-GIYAN and we are all so grateful! yay!

Going all out delivery
Whether it is changing times or simply the full lockdown affect we felt that the best way to get our produce to potential clients was via delivery only. We admire takeaways and high pressure kitchens that can churn out many tickets in an hour but we had been there before with our experience operating large commercial kitchens including Cosmo World Buffet on the high street and also previous Indian, Pan-Asian restaurants and Gastro Pubs we had operated. This time and if you can empathise with an aging chef and brigade it needed to be something where we could deliver quality food but at a pace which allowed us to really cook slowly and bring homecooking and gastronomy together. The answer was clear and thankfully through freelancing and trying different things over the past few years we were able to handle the tech side of things also quite well. V-Giyan is more like a food commerce or food tech based start up similar to allplants and planty, than it is an Indian restaurant and we wanted to keep it this way as we could show our clientele the amazing things that can be achieved using our system to deliver vegan Punjabi goodness that has been cooked slowly rather than the more fast-causal type vegan food that is out there.
Plant Based Punjabi Vibes
We then spent extensive time with many experiments to try and create a menu of dishes which carry well and can be received fresh with little or no prep required. We found what we were seeking was already with us because Punjabi food is traditionally slow cooked and the next challenge was how to transform this into being 100% plant based and also not lose any flavor and if anything take everything up a notch. This all occurred through the magic of hard work and testing and we are happy to say we reached a really good milestone. Please feel free to visit our blog to learn more about our story.
