Railway Mutton Curry is an Indian dish with a rich history and a flavourful blend of spices that has become a favourite among foodies throughout the world. The story of Railway Mutton Curry begins during the colonial era when the British introduced the railways to India in the mid-19th century, and with it, they brought their love for stews. So, the railway cooks came up with a unique recipe for this hearty and satisfying dish that could be prepared in large quantities; it was a great option for their guests who did not have the palate for lots of spice in traditional Indian Food. It was the staple food on the newly built railroad running straight from Amritsar, Punjab.
The curry was typically served with rice or naan, and sometimes accompanied by a side of pickles or chutney. The dish was so beloved that it even inspired a famous Bollywood song in the 1950s, “Mere Sapno Ki Rani” from the film Aradhana!
RAILWAY CURRY BY V-GIYAN
Our chefs have put their own spin on the recipe, making it plant-based and adding their unique blend of spices and flavours. However, the basic elements remain the same – instead of meat, our mutton-like chunks are made of soy, shiitake mushroom, and wheat protein; then, there are slowly cooked in a thick and rich curry sauce. Turning a colonial dish into a modern vegan power meal really has been hugely satisfying for our plant pioneering kitchen team.

Why choose our Railway Curry?
Health benefits. By choosing our Vegan Railway Curry, you can enjoy the flavours of the traditional dish while also consuming a healthier meal. The vegan version is typically high in fibre, vitamins, and minerals, and low in saturated fat and cholesterol.
Shiitake Mushroom has been used in traditional medicine for centuries to promote health and well-being. Shiitake mushrooms contain beta-glucans, which are complex sugars that can stimulate the immune system. They are also a good source of ergothioneine, which has anti-inflammatory properties; it may help to reduce inflammation in the body, which is associated with a range of chronic health conditions, such as heart disease, arthritis, and cancer. Plus, shiitake mushrooms are a good source of several essential nutrients, including B vitamins, copper, selenium, and zinc. Wow!
Non-GMO Soy Protein is a complete protein source that provides all the essential amino acids necessary for muscle growth and repair. It is a rich source of calcium, which is essential for bone health. Did you know that soy protein contains isoflavones, which are compounds that have been shown to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels?
Versatility. One of the unique features of Vegan Railway Curry is that it is a one-pot meal. This means that all the ingredients are cooked together in the same pot, which allows the flavors to meld together and intensify. The dish is also incredibly versatile and can be made with a variety of plant-based meats.
Environmentally Friendly. Vegan Railway Curry is also a tasty way to reduce your environmental impact by reducing animal-based products in your diet.
